Not dived for a while? Join our scuba refresher!

However much we would all like to dive all day, every day - sometimes life gets in the way. If it’s been a while since your last dive, consider joining our refresher session to make sure you feel comfortable getting in the water and again blowing bubbles. WHEN SHOULD I TAKE A REFRESHER?

As a new diver we recommend taking a refresher if you have not dived for six months or longer. If you have been a diver for a while and have 100+ dives we recommend taking a refresher after one year of inactivity.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

The refresher will be incorporated with your first dive of the day so that you don't miss out on any time in the water. The skill session can take as little as 10-15 minutes (depending on how comfortable you are in the water) and then you can head off to explore our incredible dive sites!

what skills will i do?

The refresher will include a pre-dive briefing, equipment set-up, buddy check, regulator clearing and recovery, mask clearing, buoyancy skills, alternate air source use and a weight check.

how much does it cost?

We offer refresher dives free of charge when you book fun diving with us.

For best value, check out our package prices here.

why choose scuba junkie?

At Scuba Junkie we believe in quality over quantity! We aim to do more than just “ticking the boxes”, to give you the most out of your training as possible. All of our staff are renewed and up-to-date PADI Divemasters or Instructors, and most have been trained in-house to ensure that we can offer you top quality training, not only in line with PADI standards, but also by our Scuba Junkie standards!

We keep group sizes to a maximum of 4 divers per staff member, and refresher dives are always conducted separate to other fun diver groups. Our equipment is well maintained, and serviced regularly, and our dive boats have all safety equipment you may need, including emergency oxygen and first aid kit.

Are you ready to get back in the water?

Our refresher will help you get back to blowing bubbles safely and comfortably after a period of inactivity. We'll help you refresh your diving skills, so that you can focus less on the technical parts of diving, and more on the incredible underwater scenes you will be encountering whilst diving in this area!

what does the schedule look like?

Our staff member will meet you at the jetty in the morning to help collect your dive equipment from the dive shop. You will be given a thorough dive briefing about the different skills covered in the refresher, standard emergency procedures, hand signals and what to expect to see at the dive site. Your guide will also go over any questions or concerns you may have about the dive. If there’s anything extra you wish to practise, you can let your Divemaster or Instructor know.

After going through the equipment set up, the underwater skills will be practised in the calm, shallow waters of our Mabul House Reef, on our purpose built platform. The skills will be demonstrated to you by your guide underwater.

during the dive

Once you have practised the skills and are feeling comfortable with blowing bubbles again, you’ll be able to head out to explore our awesome House Reef, without any time delays! We are lucky to have one of the best dive sites around the island right in front of our jetty.

The site consists of a sandy slope (perfect for getting a hang of your buoyancy again), with an array of structures and boats that have been deliberately sunk to attract a variety of marine life. You may see anything from colourful schooling fish and massive green turtles (over 1.5m!) to cuttlefish laying eggs, pipefish hiding in the sand, frogfish, nudibranchs and of course Nemo!

after the dive

Once back on dry land, your guide will give you a debriefing and go through any reminders or tips for your next dive. If you are feeling comfortable being back in the water, you will join the boat for the second and third dive, and head out to explore some other Mabul dive sites. If you need a little extra time to practice, your guide might advise you to make the second dive from the jetty, and head out on the boat for your third and last dive of the day.

A delicious lunch will be served at the resort in between dive two and three, to ensure you have enough energy for a full day of diving. At the end of the day, your guide will sit down with you to fill in your log book with all the details from the dives and of course go through our fish reference books and point out the awesome marine life you’ve encountered!
